中医观人之术，本于五形人。五形人者，首于《黄帝内经·灵枢·阴阳二十五人》专篇论之。五形人者，乃木形之人、火形之人、土形之人、金形之人、水形之人之总称。五形人者，具有先天禀受、一生不变之形态与气质，《五形人与治未病》姑且以"形、色、音、貌、态"辨识之。五形人者，具有先天阴平阳秘之态，内涵阴阳量平衡、阴阳寒热质性、形质特征与五藏胜复平衡，《五形人与治未病》姑且以"天和态"称之。五形人"天和态"，是为中医"治未病"之抓手，内、外因素作用于此，呈现出特定且规律的改变进程，《五形人与治未病》姑且称为"天和态改变路径"，是为中医"治未病"之落脚点。
