Systems Basics: Learning from the principles embedded in Nature to develop Integral East-West Systems Thinking – a Case Study of Schemas Theory系統論基礎工作坊:從學習自然界法則來融合東西方系統思維 – 基模論的探討 [Systems Basics Workshop]
2018 June 08Abstract
Learning from the principles embedded in Nature, many systems theories have been developed in the West including Distinctions-Systems-Relationships-Perspectives theory of analysis by Derek Cabrera, R-theory of Relational Sciences by John Kineman, Emergent Meta-system in Schemas Theory by Kent Palmer, and even ancient systems thinking in “Tree of Life”. On the other side of the world, Eastern systems thinking have been also developed including the ancient Taichi Ying-Yang by Taoism, Heaven-Earth-Human Trinity by Confucianism, Five Elements Differential Diagnosis-Cure Process by Traditional Chinese Medicine, Five Aggregates Human Mind Systems by Buddha, Five Virtues by Confucianism, and modern unification in the Taichi Yin-Yang Five Elements Trinity i±1 Systems theory by Ancient Balance Medicine Research Institute.
All these theories contribute to the development of General Systems Theories GST aiming at understanding the general fundamental components and relationships of knowledge across different disciplines. All theories seem to attempt to release the boundary of duality between the physical world with precise engineering, and the world of consciousness with fuzzy cognitive processes, and eventually develop different united non-dual systems thinking. In this workshop, we will present a simple introduction of these theories and then navigate participants into the essence of Schemas Theory with the inventor Kent Palmer and other speakers, and introduce a possible perspective from Schemas Theory for the “unification in diversity” of different systems theories.
